A sensor on the ice gets its power from the sun it does not see for months. The thesis presents a compiler that takes an energy budget alongside the program and rewrites the code to fit it, deciding what to compute now, what to defer, and what to forget. Deployed on forty loggers, it kept them alive through a winter that killed the control group.
