Portraits of People Who Are Not There: Painting from Radio Alone

About the thesis

For a year the candidate painted the voices on the station’s radio without ever seeing their owners, then showed the portraits to the sitters. The thesis is the paintings, a record of what the sitters recognised and what they refused, and an argument about what a likeness is for when the face is not the point.
