Keeping Warm Without Keeping Still: Heat Loss in Small Mammals That Will Not Hibernate

Über die Dissertation

Some small mammals refuse to sleep through winter. The thesis measures what that costs them, with heat cameras and tiny loggers on voles that stay busy at minus thirty, and finds a set of behaviours, from huddling schedules to tunnel architecture, that together make up for a body too small to hold its warmth.
