PhD defenses are public occasions, and many universities share them online. PhD TV brings those scattered listings together, shows them in your local time, and offers a calendar feed so it’s easier to keep up.

Calendar feeds

Add every defense, or just the fields you follow, to any calendar app. No account needed.

Where the listings come from

Most listings come from public university pages, and some are sent in by people who know about them. Each defense page links back to its original source.

The line under each title

Under each title is one line saying in plain words what the thesis is about. A language model writes it from the title and the abstract, so it can be wrong: a candidate who writes their own featured defense page replaces it with their own words, and a curator can correct it. If you spot a wrong one, write to us.

Your own defense

If your defense is listed, you can open its page and choose “This is my defense, let me customize it” to create a featured page in your own words. It stays private until you send it in, then it is reviewed before going live.

If it is not listed yet, send it in. Anyone can contribute a defense, and candidates can create their featured page along the way.

Corrections and removals

Names and titles come from public university listings. If you would rather not appear here, just let us know and we’ll remove it. And if you notice a wrong time, unavailable stream, or missing recording, we’d be grateful to hear about that too.

Where the pictures come from

A defense shows its own picture; otherwise we use the university’s, or a plate from its field. Every image is public domain or Creative Commons, specially cropped and toned for the page.
