Moss Gardens on Bare Rock: Growing Soil Where There Is None
This defense was not recorded
About the thesis
On rock with no soil, moss makes some. The thesis follows five years of moss gardens on the station’s outcrops, measuring how fast a mat turns stone into something a seed can hold, and which species do it fastest. The answer, a centimetre a decade with the right partners, is slower than hoped and faster than the textbooks say.
